The Zagreb Marathon is a popular road race which takes place every October through the streets of the beautiful Croatian capital city. The starting official’s firing gun starts the runners off on a route which takes them from Ban Jelačić, the capital’s main square, up to the eastern suburb of Dubec and back again. The race will celebrate its 26th year in 2017 and will feature a half marathon and a 5,000-metre race alongside the full 42-kilometre marathon. If you’d like to try your hand at winning the €3,000 prize, head to the marathon website to register. With representatives from around 35 countries regularly competing in the race around this historic city, the event is a great experience for runners and spectators alike.
The 26th Zagreb Marathon will take place in October 2017. If you’d like to enter the race, you can sign up on the official online registration page. Please note that you have to collect your starter packages from Ban Jelačić Square the day before the race. The entry fee is in the region of €30. If you’d like to attend the race, fly into Pleso, Zagreb’s International Airport which is a 20-minute drive from the city centre. From there, take the Airport Bus to the main bus station where you have the choice of taking the tram, bus or mainline train to any part of the city.
The Zagreb Marathon has the reputation of being a relatively small and friendly race which means it’s perfect for your first marathon. There’s always a great atmosphere and a good turnout of supporters to cheer along the runners. Last year’s winner of the women’s race, Stellah Jepngetich Barosio, also won the 2015 event. Will she be back in 2017 to try to make it three in a row?
