Southbank Centre is a world-famous arts centre on the South Bank of the Thames. Created in 1951 for the Festival of Britain, Southbank Centre draws on its heritage as a festival site, with art and activities inside and outside. They encourage everyone to become involved in the arts in new and creative ways.

About the Festival

See how the Southbank Centre is transformed into a magical landscape this festive season, complete with a bustling market, twinkling lights and a host of seasonal events for winter. The annual festival offers a packed programme of free and ticketed events for all ages – from world-class theatrical performances and festive concerts, to social dances and community choirs. There is also plenty of Christmas shopping and wintry food and drinks to be enjoyed, as well as family activities to keep the children entertained.

Helpful information about the Winter Festival

Admission to the Winter Festival is free, but paid-for tickets are required for certain activities, such as BIANCO (which is the contemporary circus whereby you will be dazzled by awesome and elegant stunts performed in every corner of No Fit State's big top tent) and the Million Dollar Quartet.

The Festival also includes the popular Winter Market set on the banks of the river Thames. Explore this charming market for special gifts among the wooden chalets, and enjoy plenty of seasonal food and drink – perfect for keeping you warm.  For music lovers, during 17 Dec – 2 Jan there is the festive rock 'n' roll hot new musical which features tunes from music legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. The musical is inspired by the recording session that brought the four musicians together for the first and only time. Getting there is easy via Public transport: Underground and Rail Stations: Waterloo, Embankment, Charing Cross, and Waterloo East. Buses stop on Waterloo Bridge, on York Road, on Belvedere Road and on Stamford Street.
