One of Europe’s largest festivals, Roskilde is a week-long celebration of over 180 performances in the south of Denmark. Created in 1971, a trip to Roskilde has long been a rite of passage for the youth of Scandinavia. These days, the festival welcomes visitors from around the globe who make the trip north to experience one of the world’s most established music festivals. The line-up is guaranteed to feature local emerging artists and top name musicians. Previous performers have included Bob Marley & the Wailers, Nirvana and Prince.
Roskilde takes place from 24th June to 1st July 2017 just outside the city of Roskilde in the south of Denmark. You can buy a one-day pass which grants you entry from 8am that day until 8am the following day or you can purchase an 8-day pass to experience the whole festival. You can buy your tickets here. To get to the festival, the nearest airport is Copenhagen International Airport. From there, you can hop on a train to Roskilde station where you’ll find friendly festival guides to help you onto the right bus to the festival entrance.
If you really enjoy your trip to Roskilde, you’ll probably want to consider coming back for 2018. There’s one way you can do this for free - take part in the annual naked run! The fastest male and fastest female will both win free tickets for the 2018 festivities! This tradition has been going since 1999 and is so popular that there are qualifier events for the final race! If you’re a bit shy for a naked run, you’ll have to resort to the traditional method of paying for your ticket. At least you can do so with a good conscience as all profits made at Roskilde go to charity.
