Running throughout October is the Outdoor Festival in Rome, dedicated to the promotion of urban art and culture. The artists come together to transform industrial locations into a month long festival, currently being held in the former barracks at Guido Reni visitors will be able to view one off installations and other events. Throughout the month each of the countries participating will also host their own night, so expect the finest artists from Norway, Spain, Austria and France as well as home grown Italian talent. Previous exhibits have included political graffiti from the Norweigan AFK and nature-inspired murals from fellow street artist, Tellas.
Ciampino and Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci International Airport) are the nearest airports to Rome and the main Termini Station is closest to the event itself. The festival runs each weekend during October, Friday/Saturday/Sunday from midday to midnight. There are also evening concerts included that start from 9pm, along with an onsite cinema. Tickets cost €8.00 per day, which includes entry to talks and also cinema viewings as part of the event. The occasional day tickets may be increased to €12.00 and there are also discounts for those aged under 26 at only €6.00 whilst under 14’s go free.
Although the festival is after the summer season don’t be put off by the name, as all the events are undercover. There are however special exhibitions elsewhere in the city which can be discovered by downloading the official app. Read up on the countries involved and if any specific artist is of interest check which days are dedicated to them. Make a weekend of it and stay for the Saturday evenings where live music ranges from French Hip Hop to Austrian Electro or take advantage of the cinema included in your entry. Purchase a subsidised joint ticket at €14.00 for both the Outdoor Festival and nearby Museum MAXXI.
