Out Jazz returns for its eleventh scintillating edition, providing an essential soundtrack to the hot Lisbon summer with a variety of concerts around this historic city. Taking place in some of the capital’s most beautiful public spaces, such as Parque Tejo, Jardim Casa das Histórias Paula Rego in Cascais and Jardim da Torre de Belem, you’ll be treated to some amazing sounds every weekend throughout the summer. Last year’s line-up featured musicians Salvador Sobral, Afrocuban Project and Francisco Sales. And DJs aren’t neglected either with DJ Mary B, DJ Rykardo and DJ Tiago Fonseca blasting out some of the best electronic sounds around.
Out Jazz takes place from May to September 2017 in various public spaces around Lisbon and nearby Cascais. The music starts at around 5pm each weekend and features a host of live musicians and DJs all with the common aim of promoting jazz music and livening up the capital’s summer. All of the concerts are free so you can feel free to simply turn up to one of the city’s gardens and be entertained. You can access the programme from the official website and you can reach all of the venues, such as the Tagus Park and Tapada das Necessidades via metro.
With temperatures routinely reaching the eighties, many of Lisbon’s city-dwellers traditionally headed to the beach to cool down at weekends. As a result of this, the city tended to feel a little empty once the summer months arrived. This was one of the reasons that Out Jazz was founded. The organisers decided to bring life to the city’s public green areas by providing hip hop, jazz, soul and funk to the very heart of Lisbon, thereby making locals and tourists alike think twice about heading for the beach once the working week was over. And with events taking place all summer long, there’s plenty of time to do both!
