MEO Sudoeste is a large music festival held in Zambujeira do Mar on Portugal’s Atlantic coast. With most of the music happening at night, the daytime is devoted to splashing around in the sea - the best place to get to know your fellow music fans and to escape Portugal’s blistering summer heat. The evening is devoted to the very best in global EDM and pop - 2016’s headliners were none other than Wiz Khalifa, Martin Garrix and Steve Aoki. Other performers to have set MEO’s stages alight in the past include Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Elli Goulding.
This popular music festival takes place over five days from 2nd to 6th August 2017 in the beautiful coastal region of Zambujeira do Mar. To get to the festival, fly in to Faro International Airport and then continue your journey by train to the nearby town of Santa Clara-Saboia, close to the festival venue. The event draws thousands to music fans so make sure you get your tickets early if you’d like to attend. Head to the official website for information on how to get tickets.
One of the great draws of this festival is its location. The organisers provide a free shuttle bus to the nearest beach - Zambujeira - so you can have a real holiday around the music festival. That’s not to say that there’s nothing going on during the day - the huge festival site is filled with fairground rides, stalls and plenty of places where can fill yourself up with some delicious food. In terms of music, while the main stage focus in recent years has been on EDM, there is also a second stage called Mundo Sudoeste. This stage features more alternative acts and caters for those who prefer their beats a little more chilled. Previous artists to grace those stages include José González and Afrika Bambaataa.
