About the Magical Lantern Festival

A spectacular way to mark Chinese New Year, the Magical Lantern Festival is one of the capital’s most visually stunning events. Held in Chiswick House Gardens in West London, the Chinese tradiiton of letting go of the previous year by launching lanterns into the night sky is celebrated in style at this festival. This year’s theme is Silk Road and you can expect magnificent illuminations including a 15-metre wide lantern version of the Houses of Parliament, pandas made of light and even 3D lanterns. Funfair rides, a 600-square metre ice rink, virtual reality games and delicious food make this a must-visit event during the New Year festivities.

The Magical Lantern Festival takes place from 19th January until 26th February and is held in Chiswick House Gardens in West London. It’s open from Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to 10pm during those dates. The nearest overground train station is Chiswick and the nearest tube stations are Turnham Green and Gunnersbury. From there, the Dukes Avenue Gate entrance to Chiswick House Gardens is a 10-15 minute walk. If you buy tickets online in advance, they are £16.50 per adult and £10.50 per child for weekday entry and £18 per adult and £12 per child for weekend entry. Ice rink tickets are available for £9.50 per adult and £7.50 per child. Early bird discounts are also available so please check the website.
