The Scottish portal district of Leith, just outside Edinburgh, hosts its own festival for local talent. With a series of events all under the heading of the Leith Festival, there’s plenty to see and do. Live music in the past has included folk and Americana, funk and soul, a ukulele orchestra and a David Bowie tribute night. There have been charity football matches, belly dancers, magic shows and much more, in what is a very diverse and entertaining few days. Scottish twins Craig and Charlie Reid, better known as The Proclaimers, released the album “Sunshine on Leith” named after a fondness for their birthplace.
Although on the outskirts of the city, getting to Leith is straightforward and takes less than 20-minutes. Regular buses are available from Edinburgh city centre.
