Formula One racing comes to Hungary, with the grand prix taking place at the Hungaroring in the city’s capital of Budapest. The high-speed sport of F1 continues to feature big names such as Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. The first Hungarian grand prix took place in 1936 in Nepliget. In 1986 it moved to the Hungaroring and became the first Formula One race to be held behind the Iron Curtain, prior to the end of the cold war.  Legendary world champion driver Michael Schumacher holds the fastest lap record, covering the 4.3km circuit in just over 1 minute and 19 seconds.

The main airport in the capital of Budapest is the Ferenc Liszt International Airport, often referred to as Ferihegy. There is a metro line into the city centre that operates until 11pm, or a night bus for late arrivals. Getting to the Hungaroring race track couldn’t be easier, with Volánbusz buses being laid on for free travel from key locations including the metro station. General admission tickets cost €73 and €84, increasing to €99 after the early bird prices. Grandstand tickets are split into gold, silver and bronze. Prices range from €84 to €505 depending on which seats you choose.

Book in plenty of time to avoid disappoint, but also to advantage of the early bird discount. Take a look at the course map to help choose your seats. The majority of seats are along the main straight but it is worth taking into consideration the 3 corner package. Race day is on the Sunday but watch the action unfold during practice and qualifying. Children under 13 go free, so make it a family outing. Make use of the Volánbusz bus to arrive at the track.
