About the Glasgow Jazz Festival

The annual jazz festival is due to return to Scotland for another year of live music. With several venues across the city taking part, the festival collates a series of 4 days of concerts under the umbrella of the Glasgow Jazz Festival. There will be an open-stage in George Square which has been headlined by Glasgow’s very own Carol Kidd MBE. Other names to have featured at the festival include Joe Locke, who’s performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Rod Stewart and hip hop act the Beastie Boys. Ray Charles and jazz legend Miles Davis have also headlined in previous years.

Glasgow airport is only 8 miles from the city centre. If you are not driving it is easy to get around the city on foot, Queen Street and Argyle Street are the nearest train stations to the majority of the festival.  There are free events during the festival which will be marked on the website, although tickets are available for the bigger names in jazz. Other concerts vary in price, as do start and finish times with most performances held in the evening. There are free concerts at in restaurants as part of the festival, although you will still need to book a table for food.

Search online for the line-up and check the official website, sign up to the mailing list to be contacted about additions. If you are looking for a cheap break, then free concerts are available. While in order to make the most of the festival and your time away, look at eating out at a restaurant holding a concert before making your way to a bigger venue.  Some shows may sell out in advance, with the bigger names likely to appear in the stage at George Square. Children will be welcome at most shows, although any concerts in the smaller venues will be at management’s discretion.
