Gibraltar National Day

10th September 2018 | Gibraltar, Gibraltar

Held annually on 10 September, the official National Day of the British overseas territory of Gibraltar commemorates the first sovereignty referendum in 1967, when Gibraltarians voted to remain under British Sovereignty.

The first National Day was so successful that the crowds present could not fit into John Mackintosh Square. The government then declared the 10 September a public holiday.

Celebrations star around 9.30am in Casemates Square with live music, speeches and the release of thousands of red and white balloons. Fancy dress, live music and a spectacular firework display takes place at the end of the event.
