The Dante Festival is a three-day racing extravaganza held at York Racecourse in May with over a million pounds in prize money up for grabs. Kicking off a jam-packed season of quality races at the Knavesmire, the Dante races are a great chance to see the contenders’ form for the upcoming Classics. Get your hat ready and take your place amongst the scent of freshly mown grass for the perfect start to the racing season. The Tattersalls Musidora and the Betfred Dante Stakes are the ones to watch so see if you can pick a winner to get the season off to a flying start.
The Dante Festival 2018 takes place at York Racecourse. The series of races feature the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes on the 15th, the Betfred Dante Stakes on the 16th and the Betway Yorkshire Cup on the 17th with gates opening at 11:15am each day. Tickets for the races range from £7 t0 £190 depending on the raceday and the area - you can buy them in advance here. You can buy tickets on the day but make sure you arrive in good time as May racing is usually extremely busy. If you’re travelling by train, head for York station and hop on the shuttle bus which will take you directly to the racecourse. If you’re arriving by car, use the brand new park and ride service on Tadcaster Road - find out more info on the service here.
If you’re planning on attending York Races for the first time, you may be wondering which ticket to buy. If you’re looking forward to dressing up (a hat for the ladies and a tie for the gentlemen), enter the County Stand enclosure, the premier area at the racecourse. The Grandstand & Paddock area is the largest zone and is more informal. The Course enclosure is the most casual and offers a good view of the race finish.
