About Culture Night (Dates to be confirmed)

Culture Night is a festival during which over 1,400 museums & other venues across Ireland extend their opening hours & allow free entry to the public. From its beginnings as a small-scale event in Dublin in 2006, Culture Night has grown to encompass over 3,000 events and attracts around 350,000 visitors to its cultural institutions. Events range from circus fun for the whole family in the main square in Kerry to outdoor film screenings in Donegal and features authors, singers, musicians, graffiti artists, conductors, dancers and many more artists who all help to promote culture and the arts around Ireland. Come to the Emerald Isle to join in the fun!

Helpful information about Culture Night

One of the things that makes Culture Night so accessible is that all of the events are free. However, due to the large numbers that the events attract, some may be limited in capacity and require you to book in advance. Head to the Culture Night website to view the programme which tells you which events you’ll need to reserve. To help you to get around the Irish town or city of your choice, check out the Transport for Ireland Journey Planner which gives you all of your transport options in one easy place. If you’re heading to Dublin for the festivities, there will be free Culture Night buses to take you from place to place.

Making the most of Culture Night

Although the idea for Culture Night was based on the Long Night of the Museums, which originated in France, the Irish event has evolved into its own festival entirely. There really is a wide variety of events on offer throughout both Northern and Southern Ireland. Picks from 2017 include: a professional display of medieval swordsmanship in Black Box Car Park in Belfast and a workshop by The Sewcialising Project on how to repair your denim using the Japanese art of Boro in Kilkenny.
