The Berlin Pride celebration is one of the biggest LGBT events in Germany & welcomes over 700,000 revellers. Known as Christopher Street Day, the event takes its name from the Stonewall Riots which took place in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1969, marking the start of the modern day gay rights revolution. Berliners celebrate in style with a huge parade from Charlottenburg through the city streets to an amazing finale at the Brandenburg Gate. As you might expect from one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, there will be DJs, political speeches and after-parties to keep you going all through the night and beyond!
Although there are special parties and events taking place throughout the week leading up to CSD Berlin, the main celebration is the parade which takes place on 22nd July 2017. The parade starts at midday at Kurfürstendamm, winds up to Wittenbergplatz to the Siegessäule and then ends in a triumphant celebration at the Brandenburg Gate. If you’d like to take part in the parade, you can join in at any time along the route. Admission to the parade and Pride Village is free. If you’d like to travel to Germany to take part in, or spectate at, Christopher Street Day, the nearest airports are Berlin Schoenefeld and Berlin Tegel. The Pride Village, where the main stage and entertainment takes place, is located on Straße des 17. Juni. The main stage features the Soul of Stonewalll Award ceremony and political speeches to get you inspired. The two music stages with DJs, bands, drag queens and a wide variety of performers have a non-stop timetable of entertainment throughout the day and night. Check out the CSD website for the list of after-parties if you’d like to carry on partying.
