Each year Father Christmas arrives in the magical Christmas Wonderland in Edinburgh to greet children and adults alike. Ride on the Santa Train before knocking on the door to Santa’s Grotto. You will find plenty of fairground rides and stalls, a series of specially curated Winter Windows and much more. You can go ice-skating, eat lots of festive food at the Scottish Market or watch a Christmas themed theatre production at the nearby venues. You may even get to ride on Rudolph as part of the Reindeer merry-go-round.
Once you are in Edinburgh it is easy to find the Christmas Wonderland located just off the main shopping area of Princes Street. If you are staying locally you can arrive on foot, or use the local bus service. If you are visiting from further away, Edinburgh has its own international airport which is only a half an hour journey into the city. The East Princes Street Gardens are open 10am to 10pm (closing early Xmas Eve and closed the duration of Xmas day). It is free entry, although bring plenty of change for the ridge and attractions.
Expect it to get cold at this time of year, so wrap up warm, especially with the wonderland being largely outdoors. This is very much a family occasion and what better time of year to meet Father Christmas. Book in advance for this popular event, with session lasting 25 minutes. Some of the fairground rides will have height restrictions, look online so you don’t queue up and have the disappointment of being turned away. Likewise for any theatre productions. Buy tickets in advance and if you want to go ice-skating, there are often free tickets up for grabs.
