The city of Liverpool welcomes in the Chinese year of the Rooster. The first day of the Chinese New Year in 2017 officially falls on Saturday 28th January.  With a large Chinese population, Liverpool even has its own Chinatown district. During the holiday period expect to find a variety of street entertainment, food and market stalls, a traditional dragon parade and a modern firework display.  The year of the Rooster is taken from the Chinese Zodiac, with each year representing a different animal.  The 12-year cycle is based around the movements of the planet Jupiter.
