About the Caramulo Motor Festival (Dates to be confirmed)

The Caramulo Motorfestival is a three-day festival of classic cars and motorcycles featuring races, exhibitions, chill out areas and plenty of music. Fine car enthusiasts from around the country descend upon the mountainous landscape of Caramulo to admire the parade of historic automobiles and to share their love of these classic machines with like-minded people. One of the highlights is the Rampa do Caramula - a time-trial race where you’ll see the cars really get tested. And the show isn’t just about cars - there are plenty of classic motorcycles to check out too. The festival grand finale is a spectacular air show featuring a classic De Havilland Chipmunk plane as well as a Cesna 140 which you can climb into afterwards.

The Motorfestival takes place in September 2018 and is completely free to enter. The activities kick off at 10am each day with the cars warming up the track before they parade around the track. Various clubs from around Portugal and Spain come together to provide drive-bys - one of last year’s impressive displays was the BMW M Portugal Club - check out the programme on the festival website to view the final timetable of events. The Caramulo Automobile Fair, where you’ll all sorts of classic car memorabilia, spare parts and miniatures, takes place in the Multipurpose Pavilion next to the Caramulo Museum. Don’t miss the photographic exhibitions in the Museum which give an illuminating view of various historic cars through the ages.

Making the most of the Caramulo Motor Festival

If you’re heading to the Motor Festival, take some time to look around the wonderful Caramulo Museum. This permanent exhibition of classic cars spans 150 years of Portuguese automobile history. The museum also contains a 500-piece art collection with exhibits from Picasso to the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt. Of particular interest is its collection of over 3,000 antique toys. This quirky collection is well worth a visit.
