The weekend of Brazilian culture is celebrated within a number of venues, with the main attraction being the Rio style parade through the city. The Liverpool Carnival company started out as part club night, part street party. They went on to then launching the Brazilca parade when Liverpool became European City of Culture for 2007, attracting 30,000 visitors in its first year.

International flights are available into the Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Liverpool Lime Street train station will take you to the heart of the city. Once in the city centre the Brazilian celebrations begin. The Parade will start on the Saturday evening near Abercromby Square ending at Williamson Square for a huge street party. The party itself is free to attend, while individual indoor events may charge for tickets depending on what’s on. The commercial district of Liverpool’s shopping centre will be open to the public. There will also be a free screening at the Old Library Lodge documenting Rio’s Carnival.
