The annual Beer and Cider Festival in Oxford takes place at  (dthe cities Town Hall. It’s a great opportunity to sample a variety of beers and ales, perry or cider with plenty available. Previous years have had in the region of 140 different ales, with over 60 perries and ciders.  Recent breweries involved have included Dark Star, Marstons and St Ives alongside many smaller local micro-breweries, such as the Staggeringly Good Brewery based in Portsmouth. The festival is organised by the Oxford branch of CAMRA. The Campaign for Real Ale is an independent organisation founded in 1971.

The festival opens on the Thursday with an evening session from 5pm to 11pm, 11am to 11pm Friday and 11am to 9pm on the Saturday. Entry is pay on the door and costs £10 or £8 if you are a CAMRA member.  Getting to Oxford is easy by train, which is just over an hour’s journey from London or car to the city centre.  If you are from overseas again London airports are in easy reach, although Birmingham International is closer. Most people choose to walk around the city, which will be the sensible option if you are attending the beer and cider festival.

Take a copy of the list with you and with so many beers to choose from enjoy yourself, but remember to drink responsibly. Ensure you take advantage of the food stalls at the festival. If you are staying the day, then start on the lighter pale ales before moving on to stronger beers. Friday night and Saturday sessions are likely to be the busiest, so try for Thursday when all the beer will be available. Although the festival is due to finish at 9pm Saturday, many of the smaller breweries may sell out way before then so arrive early.
