About the Athletics World Championships, London

The Athletics World Championships take place every 2 years and in 2017 the games are coming to the Olympic Stadium in London. There will be in the region of 2,000 competitors representing the best athletes from around the world.  Featuring both track and field events, expect to see long distance runners as well as sprinters alongside those competing in the long jump, javelin and much more. Recent competitions have included appearances from big names such as Mo Farah and 100m world record holder Usain Bolt. The tournament is also preceded by the increasingly popular World Para-athletics Championships, held at the same venue.

The Olympic Park Stadium is close to all the London airports with London City Airport the most convenient and only a short train ride away. It is easiest to reach by tube and train, with Stratford and Stratford International the nearest stops. Plan your journey across London at Tickets start at £20, with the majority costing no more than £35. Child tickets cost £9.58, which is the time in which Usain Bolt broke the world record 100m.  There are also “Super Gold” tickets available up to £155 giving the best seats in the ground. Day sessions start at 10am, evenings are from around 6.30pm.

Making the most of the Athletics World Championships, London

Book early to avoid disappointment, in particular for the evening sessions. The most popular day tends to be the build up to the men’s 100m final, due to take place on Sunday 6th August. As such prices for the finals are likely to be the more expensive tickets. Check the timetable for details on all track and field events, to help decide which days you wish to attend. When booking seats, look at the layout of the stadium in order to get the best view. There are also special priced “legend tickets” available, inspired by the records set at previous championships.
