Located in the World Heritage city of Angra do Heroísmo on the remote Terceira Island in the Azores Islands, AngraJazz is an established three-day jazz festival. Now in its 19th year, the city’s Centro Cultural e de Congressos is transformed into a 550-capacity jazz club for the festival. Jazz fans come from far and wide to this unique event which routinely attracts some of the world’s best musicians of all jazz styles. Last year’s event welcomed bassist Christian McBride, vocalist Charenée Wade and trumpeter Ralph Alessi to its packed venue. As well as a full programme of musical performances, you’ll be treated to an art exhibition showcasing pieces from local artists.
AngraJazz takes place on the small but beautiful island of Terceira in the North Atlantic Sea, off the coast of continental Portugal. The festival occurs over three days in the middle of October. Tickets vary in price depending on which seat you choose but they range from €12 to €18. If you’re planning on attending the AngraJazz festival, you can fly to the island’s Aeroporto das Lajes via a stopover at Lisbon from a variety of UK and European airports. A flight from London’s Heathrow Airport takes around six and a half hours. To get from the airport to the festival venue at the Centro Cultural e de Congressos, the most convenient option is simply to catch a taxi. The journey should take around 20 minutes and should cost between €20 and €25.
