About the America’s Cup, Bermuda

Sailors from around the world join forces to compete in a series of high-speed yacht races. Celebrating the 35th America’s Cup will be Bermuda, where the beautiful islands are to host the 2017 event. In the build-up to the prestigious cup, teams compete in races spread across the previous two years racing calendar. The top teams then qualify to take part in the qualifying rounds in Bermuda. The defending champions are Oracle Team USA who will be challenge in the finals for the ultimate trophy. Among the favourites to form a winning team are BAR, spearheaded by the most successful Olympic sailing champion ever, Sir Ben Ainslie.

Bermuda’s airport is L.F Wade International which you can reach directly from the USA, Canada or the United Kingdom. If flying from elsewhere there is a 90 minute transfer from New York. Driving on the islands is restricted to residents only, so it is best to get around by hiring a taxi. Public ferry services are also available, or reach Bermuda as part of a cruise.  There will be tickets available for the America’s Cup Village, which features entertainment and exclusive race-day facilities. The America’s Cup takes place on 17th and 18th of June, then 24th to 27th June, with the youth cup happening on the days in-between.

The racing takes place in the seas of the Great Sound, a natural amphitheatre surrounding the race track. As such choose where you wish to watch the racing. Book tickets for the America’s Cup Village for the full experience, complete with live commentary and entertainment.
