Algarve Nature Week is a nine-day event devoted entirely to indulging in activities in nature, such as whale watching, hiking, birdwatching and cycling. Taking place in one of Portugal’s most popular areas of natural beauty, the event was created to cater for active nature enthusiasts keen to do more than simply lie on the beach. There are plenty of activities on offer: burn up a sweat pedalling up the Algarve’s mountains, explore the region’s underwater life with fellow divers or take to the waters on a paddle board. Alternatively, get your binoculars at the ready to spot some of Southern Portugal’s woodland and marine birds, guided by local experts who are more than willing to show you the area’s secret wildlife hangouts.
Algarve Nature Week takes place from 5th to 14th May 2017 in the Algarve region of Southern Portugal. With over 130 activities on offer from cycling to surfing to hiking, you won’t be short of things to do. The cost of each activity varies from provider to provider so please check the official website for prices and for details of how to register for the activities. To get to the Algarve, fly in to Faro International Airport which offers regular flights to and from other cities in Europe.
As part of Nature Week, the Algarve Tourism Board organises a large exhibition close to the beach on Passeio das Dunas in Quarteira. You’ll find plenty of stalls offering all manner of local products and services, from one-off adventure experiences such as skydiving to locally-produced organic cheese and wine. The exhibition is free to enter and is open from 10am to 7pm during the second weekend of the Nature Week. Whether you’d like to book yourself on a tour to visit the local rock formations, attend a healthy eating workshop or book the kids in to do some face-painting, you’re sure to have a great time!
