Self catering accommodation for Christmas and New Year. Ideal short breaks for the Festive Season

Enjoy the Festive Season in the UK

I read only the other day that a number of travel companies are seeing people chasing the sun this Festive Season.  Who wants to spend hours traveling, tire out at airports, stand in queues for coaches, and drive on the wrong side of the road? It strikes me that they are forgetting all that the UK has to offer at Christmas and the New Year – a wonderful time of year.  I can’t think of anything better than taking time with friends and family, relaxing by a log fire, drinking Gluehwein (not very British but scrummy just the same), playing games from childhood, eating mince pies, celebrating with a festive turkey and all the trimmings.  Need I go on?  So let me lure you back to thinking about staying in the UK in luxury self catering accommodation!

Birthdays used to be just another day, until I chose to celebrate my eventful birthday at Eventful Stays new venue for weddings, anniversaries, product launches and Christmas parties.  I didn’t want to go to a hotel or just have a few friends for dinner; I wanted a big party to mark the occasion. The Royal Chelsea Flower Show is taking place between the 24th and the 28th of May 2011 at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. This year’s festival will again prove to be a huge success, and all tickets are now sold out unless you purchase on line. Fortunately, I bought my tickets weeks ago along with booking my accommodation in a lovely apartment not too far away from the venue of the Flower Show.

A truly girlie royal wedding celebration for my daughter and I. We have been invited to a girls’ Royal Wedding Tea Party in the delightful rural idyll of Heythrop, Oxfordshire. As well as enjoying the company of other girlfriends we will be able to indulge in sweet fancies prepared by each of us. This will be a mouth-watering moment as the host makes and markets her own chocolate brownies (Blue Basil Brownies http://www.bluebasilbrownies.co.uk/) – all lovingly made with Divine chocolate. And yes, they are truly divine!! Read the rest of this entry »

Us girls absolutely love a girl’s night out on the town, whatever the occasion or event, we will no doubt find one to justify it. Any excuse to dress up, put on our best shoes (and face), and head out on the tiles! Doing this around an event can be tricky however, and too often is the case where all the best places to stay are booked up and you have to queue for hours to get anywhere! If this does not sound like a fun night out then fear not, because I’ve got 5 tips that will make your weekend smooth as butter!

BE AN EAGER BEAVER.

In order to have a successful night around an event, then this is a must. Make sure you’ve got all your tickets booked and VIP passes at the ready, as well as making sure you know where you have to be at what time in order to make the night as smooth as possible. Personal experience has taught me that being an eager beaver can make or break your girl’s night out, turning a potentially disastrous night into one that you will remember forever… and not for bad reasons! From preparing the little things and making sure you’ve packed all your essential bits, booked your taxi and made all of your reservations. This will ensure your stay will be hiccup free! As I am such a wonderful daughter, Mother’s Day is always one that I prepare for in advance to make sure that I get it right. This year, however, I was away the night before Mother’s day and so a very early rise on Sunday morning was scheduled for, instead of my rather lazy and self-indulgent lie-ins. I made my way to my mum’s house with a bouquet of flowers in one hand, and “Best mum in the world” card (which even had a badge!) in the other to surprise her.  As well as the ‘on the day’ flowers and card, my sister and I had paid for a weekend break away for both my parents in London booked for next weekend. We thought the best thing to do was to get them a self-catered apartment so they can either cook a romantic meal for 2, or eat out at a fabulous restaurant.

Mother’s Day is about spending time with the family, and treating our wonderful mum’s for putting up with us all for the other 364 days of the year. My sister and I got our aprons on and began the preparation for a Mother’s Day roast, a family tradition in my household. Force of habit came in to play here though as mum could not help herself and got involved. Although this wasn’t the initial plan, mum loved the fact that for once everyone was home together, a rather rare occurrence now that we are all grown up doing our own things.
