If you have aspirations for modern living, then the Grand Designs Live show is just for you… you’ll be drawn in by the many exhibitors dazzling you with contemporary furniture, space age lighting and wow technology. Dulux are one of the official sponsors so you’ll be guaranteed some splashes of colour and ‘feature wall’ possibilities.

Kevin McCloud’s vision for what makes a grand design remains the true focus of the show so you’ll be able to catch up with the man himself along with many guest speakers in the ‘Grand Theatre’.  One of this year’s highlights is a chance to meet TV’s Grand Designers Alan and Judith Dawson discussing their ‘Adaptahaus’, a steel-framed, modular home.

If you’ve caught up with the Channel 4 TV show, you’d be forgiven for thinking that a Grand Design involves demolishing your old home and starting from scratch!  Indeed, you will find everything from bricks and mortar for builders and property developers, through to the latest eco materials and craft building techniques for architects and self-build enthusiasts. So here in my opinion are the top 5 events that occurred in the month of March.

  1. First off Ladies Day at Cheltenham.  I’ve already blogged about this explaining my day, but all in all a really fun day! Great opportunity to get all glammed up with your girls and have a drink and some giggles.  This event is always a highlight in the calendar because even if you don’t understand horse racing, and wouldn’t have a clue what to bet on, it’s a fun day for all.
  2. St. Patrick’s Day.  This may have something to do with the fact I have some Irish roots in there somewhere!  St. Patrick’s day provides a great opportunity to go out with your friends and drink lots of Guinness and wear your silly oversized green hats! Who could possibly ask for more?
  3. Country Living Spring Fair.  This is a great way to say goodbye to the winter months and introduce spring with open arms.  It is the perfect place to go when looking for ideas to brighten up your home, do up your garden ready for the summer months or refresh your wardrobe.  There is so much to do and see at this event, ranging from inspiring interiors and outdoor living, to a great food and wine section that is bound to tickle your taste buds. Tom King's Dog, Poppy

Poppy the Dog. Has rebelled against life as a show dog and now lives a quiet life in the country.

The Crufts dog show is one of the largest televised events in the calendar, and this year it is being held at the Birmingham NEC between the 10th and the 13thof March. The show lasts for 3 days in which the best of the best in the canine world are poked and prodded until the dogs are separated from puppies! Now for those of you who know nothing about this wonderful event, then fear not as Eventful Stays are here to save the day with our guide to Crufts. This will make you want to book your accommodation, pack your bag, and go barking mad for dogs!

Crufts is an exhibition dog show, where dogs of all breeds and job descriptions are groomed and pampered before either performing a task of some sort in front of an audience, or presented in front of a panel of judges. Crufts is the largest dog show in the world, as recognised by the Guinness Book of Records and thousands of spectators will flock to the Birmingham NEC for a day out, or they will stay in the area and attend all of the 4 days of doggy slip ups and embarrassed owners. Each dog is entered into a category based on their breed, as well as there being other competitions to vote the best dog on all sorts of criteria from obedience to grooming, and even agility and jumping. London Fashion Week this February was, as ever, diverse, colourful and vibrant, bringing London’s Somerset House alive. The atmosphere in London around Fashion Week is always palpable, with model agencies, international buyers and fashion insiders bustling about. The bars and restaurants are always packed and accommodation – especially hotels and B&Bs is full to brimming! It’s a strange dichotomy of enjoyment and extreme stress! Perhaps that’s what they call adrenaline?

Samantha Cameron does fashion

Interestingly, AW11 was kicked off by Samantha Cameron in her new role as Ambassador for the British Fashion Council. This signals the fashion world’s recent attempts to distance themselves from the more traditional stereotype of women being treated as vapid clotheshorses. Samantha Cameron is perfect for the role because she is intelligent, fashionable, but still a real woman. Read the rest of this entry »
