If you have ever been to a cringe-worthy comedy nights you will know what if feels like to ‘die’ on stage.

Luckily for Londoners, the capital hosts some of the best free comedy nights in pubs and clubs around town, including:

The Top Secret Comedy Club, Covent Garden

Probably one of the worst-kept secrets in London, this lively comedy club in Drury Lane hosts many well-known comedians who drop by to try out their new material. Every Tuesday night, Shoot from the Hip bring their hilarious improve show here for free. Other nights are cheap and so is the beer!

Comedy Café Theatre, Shoreditch

Situated in Rivington Street, the Comedy Café Theatre has been holding a New Act Night for many years. A great opportunity to see gifted up and coming comedians before they are famous.

Angel Comedy, Islington

Enjoy free comedy every night of the week with Angel Comedy at Camden Head in Islington. Monday is improve night, Tuesday, one of the best performers at the Edinburgh Festival will entertain you, Wednesday the floor is for new comedians or experienced acts, Thursday brings favourite UK comedians and Friday and Saturday are the flagship nights. Sunday sees more new comedians make you laugh – arrive early!

Comedy Virgins, Stockwell

Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the Cavendish Arms in Stockwell hosts the Comedy Virgins and up to 20 comedians perform a one minute set in the hope of being awarded the Comedy Virgin Trophy. The winner is chosen by the audience shouting ‘buy them a drink.’ A fun way to watch comedy.

Sunday Shtick, Kentish Town

Catch all new acts for free on a Sunday night at the Rose and Crown in Kentish Town. This open mic night starts at 8pm and brings together some of the best new acts on the circuit.

The Platypus Playpen, Kings Cross

Hosts Garrett Millerick, Chris Betts. Abigoliah Schamaun and Pierre Novellie bring together some of the best stand-up acts in London. Held at the Harrison, the night offers a great chance for comedians to try out their new material. The night is free but you can donate some cash at the end if you choose to.

The Comedy Grotto, Kings Cross

Another lively venue in Kings Cross, the Comedy Grotto is a ‘pay what you want’ comedy night at the Star of Kings on York Way. You don’t have to pay anything if you don’t want to but all money collected goes to good causes. A great line up of comedians testing new material!
