Columbia Road Flower Market
Even if you are not buying flowers this is still a worthwhile Sunday excursion. Each week, the market fills the small street with gorgeous plants and shrubs, along with beautiful English roses, exotic orchids and banana trees adorning all the stalls. Opens: Sun 8am – 3pm.
Portobello Road Market
This is one of the world’s biggest antiques market, and attracts collectors from far and wide. It is said that more than 1,000 antiques dealers gather to show off their collection of intriguing objects. Opens: Monday to Wednesday 9am-6pm, Thursday 9am-1pm, and Friday to Saturday 9am-7pm.
Brick Lane Market
This is a truly East London atmospheric Sunday market. Plenty of stalls selling retro bric-a-brac and vintage items, as well as some fresh produce. Backyard Market and Sunday Upmarket in the Old Truman Brewery are offshoots of Brick Lane Market. Opens: Sunday 10am-5pm. Backyard Market: Saturday 11am-6pm, Sunday 10am-5pm. Situated in the East London neighbourhood of Hackney, Broadway Market attracts many visitors each Saturday looking for vintage and designer attire. It also draws in the weekend brunch crowd with vendors offering everything from pastries and gourmet burgers to artisanal coffee. Opens: Saturday 9am-5pm.
Covent Garden Market
Held within the 19th century Piazza of Covent Garden, there are three markets to explore. Take a look around the Apple Market, East Colonnade Market and Jubilee Market for handcrafted gifts, artworks, confectionary and clothes. Opens: Monday to Friday 10am-8pm, Saturday 9am-8pm, and Sunday Midday-6pm.
This market dates back to 1887. You will find vintage wares alongside handmade crafts and lovely gifts. Why not coincide your visit with Spitalfields Arts Market – held over one weekend each month. Opens: Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, Sunday 9am-5pm. Saturday Style Market: Saturday 11am-5pm.
This is absolutely a market for food lovers and is set up across an outdoor space at Southbank Centre, with both street food and fresh produce to tempt anyone passing by. Do try and visit inside the Southbank Centre which houses cultural exhibitions and events. Opens: Friday Midday-8pm, Saturday 11am-8pm, Sunday and Monday Midday-6pm.
Camden Town is home to all sorts of various market stalls, with displays to suit all tastes. The market around Camden Lock features designers and artists, and also a selection of international food vendors. Opens daily 10am-6pm.
Maltby Street Market
Each weekend fantastic food is set up beneath the railway arches of Bermondsey, with a street market stretch called the Ropewalk. Food ranges from seafood and cured meat to homemade pickles and preserves. Aside from being able to sample local produce, visitors ca pick up a gourmet coffee. Opens: Saturday 9am-4pm, Sunday 11am-4pm.
A couple of minutes from London Bridge, this food market is one of London’s most visited gastronomic markets, as it has so much outstanding local produce. Try the superb selection of fresh seafood or some handmade preserves. Opens: Mon – Thurs 10am – 5pm and Sat 8am – 5pm.
