So although the rain may be pouring outside, I have been informed by a ‘reliable’ source that this Bank Holiday weekend should, fingers crossed, stay dry, which gives you the perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful British countryside. We only get 8 bank holidays a year, ok so this year we’ll have 9, thanks to Wills and Kate, so we really ought to make the most of them and get the whole family out for a day in the sunshine.

Being the avid racing fan that I am, this weekend I’m packing up the car with a scrumptious picnic and heading to Stratford upon Avon for some exhilarating summer jump racing. It’s a chance for the ladies to get a bit glammed up, the gents to have a little flutter and kids to fill their lungs with some fresh air. It won’t break the bank balance either with prices from £8.00 and children under 18 free. Best of all it’s an evening meet with racing starting at 5.50pm, giving you the opportunity to perhaps visit the family or carry out some chores first or in my case the chance to head into town after to celebrate all my winnings! Accommodation in Surrey for Ascot

Accommodation for Royal Ascot

Being the equestrian lover that I am, the start of summer always excites me as it means one very key thing… the new equestrian season is well under way! Here are my top 3 ‘horsey’ events in June which I believe are truly unmissable events and each one will guarantee to provide a great day out for all!

Kicking off in style with the Bramham International Horse Trails, held between 2nd – 5th June 2011. This exhilarating 3 day event takes place in North Yorkshire and is fast becoming known for its critically acclaimed cross country course which promises the spectator every inch of excitement. The trails begin with a dressage test which can be described to the non-horsey persona as a graceful dance on horseback, followed by the long and gruelling cross country test which evaluates stamina of both horse and rider. Finally the crucial show jumping phase which tests their technical jumping skills, inviting plenty of “oooooh’s” and “ahhhhh’s” from the crowd! This year the shopping village has been expanded extensively and given a new layout sending shopaholics into paradise, I for one included. I would highly recommend staying nearby and making your trip more of a holiday as the nearby town of Harrogate offers some fantastic bars and restaurants. Accommodation such as a boutique cottage will make your stay extra special. Read the rest of this entry »

Accommodation for the Chelsea Flower Show.

Chelsea Flower Show. Source: Google images.

The Royal Chelsea Flower Show is taking place between the 24th and the 28th of May 2011 at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. This year’s festival will again prove to be a huge success, and all tickets are now sold out unless you purchase on line. Fortunately, I bought my tickets weeks ago along with booking my accommodation in a lovely apartment not too far away from the venue of the Flower Show.

Accommodation for the FA Cup

Source: Google Images

The FA Cup Final is historically one of the most prestigious and well respected tournaments in Europe. It has been host to some unforgettable moments in football, including the famous strike from Stephen Gerrard in 2006 against West Ham to take the game to 3-3 and into extra time, or my favourite ever Ryan Giggs goal in which he effortlessly tore Arsenal apart at Villa Park to put United through to the FA cup Final held at the Old Wembley Stadium. That year, might I add, United went on to win the Treble of the FA Cup, Premiership and the Champions League.

In recent years however, the FA Cup has lost its sparkle. The Cup that was once so coveted by the best in England has become something of a consolation prize for those who would much rather concentrate on their European campaigns. This year is no different, as Manchester City face Stoke at Wembley Stadium on Saturday the 14th of May. This will be the first ever Cup final for Stoke and they will look to upset the mighty Manchester City, who will be competing in their 8th FA Cup Final. Read the rest of this entry »

Accommodation for the Brighton Fringe Festival

The Wonderful Brighton Beach

The time of year has come again for the Fringe to start, and not only does it mark the beginning of a wonderful festival season, but this seaside event gets us all thinking of summer days at the beach and in the parks.  The Brighton Fringe is one of the largest arts festivals in England making it the perfect day for all ages!  There is so much on offer to entertain both the adults and the kids, including a wide variety of music, cabaret, comedy, literature, theatre, and visual arts…the list is endless!

There is a wonderful collection of brilliant acts and performers taking stage in Brighton during the Fringe Festival! Make sure you catch Hendrick’s Horseless Carriage of Curiosities appearing in the town, ‘Movin Melvin’s musical journey from Africa to America is a brilliant act with lots of songs, stories and dancing, and if Classical music is for you Faure’s Requiem will be featuring championed by ClassicFM.
