The Badminton Horse Trials
For all horse lovers time is fast approaching for the Badminton Horse Trials, and what better way to spend your Easter weekend than attending one of the UK’s best loved equestrian events. The trials take place from the 21st April to the 25th April and I am sure its going to be the usual nail biting excitement over the course of the 5 days of competition and festivities.
The event is renowned to be one of the toughest and exciting equestrian events of the year and the competition is run over 3 days – each day consisting of a different discipline or phase. The most exciting is the 4 mile cross country ride – hiding my eyes most of the time behind my hands as the most beautiful horses jump solid fencing and natural obstacles each trying to make the best time. These animals have to be the fittest of the fit to be able to withstand the hard work over the 3 days of events.
The order of events starts with the Dressage stage, demonstrating elegance and beauty, followed by the thrilling cross country ride and then finishing off with the horse jumping. Coming from a family of horse lovers, attending this event is considered a real break away from the everyday chores of work – we therefore make a real holiday of it and end up renting a self-catering property close by which we can return to at the end of each day and discuss the days activities and which horse was better than which (in our opinion).
