Founded in 1311 as the first University of Dublin, created by the Pope Trinity College history is Catholic in origin. Although a fully operational institute, you don’t have to be a student to learn about the history. Take a tour of the stunning grounds and architecture, the college has its own Chapel the Long Room of the Old Library is famous in its own right. Housing hundreds and thousands of books, manuscripts and ordnance survey maps along with the world famous religious manuscript “Book of Kells”. If you’re thinking of attending the University there have been many notable graduates over the years, including Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Bram Stoker.
Nearest airport is Dublin International and the college is situated upon the popular destination of Grafton Street. Tour prices are €13 for adults (€12 concessions) and €11 for under 18’s (€7 when accompanied by a teacher) and include access to the “Book of Kells”.
The “Book of Kells” is well worth a visit. If you already have a ticket (or wish to view another time) then the guided tour of the rest of the college is available at a discount. Make sure you also visit the free Science Museum, which is within the College grounds, where there are various one of courses, lectures and exhibitions on offer. If you’re visiting after May 2017 then there’s also the Zoological Museum which will be open by then too.

Dublin is home of Guinness and the Storehouse is a fantastic museum, you can also carry on drinking at a tour of the Jameson distillery or have a night out in Temple Bar. If it’s the history of Ireland that attracts you then there’s Dublin Castle, or whilst in Grafton Street there are plenty of shops to spend your holiday money.
