The Broads National Park

About The Broads National Park

The Broads, a local term for lakes, is a collection of 70 waterways in Norfolk in the East of England and is one of the UK’s most popular boating destinations. Comprising seven rivers and 63 lakes, the Broads contain over 120 miles of navigable waterways. Long believed to have been natural features, it was discovered in the 1960s that the Broads were actually man-made during the Middle Ages - local monasteries excavated peat to sell as fuel and the empty trenches were then flooded with rainwater, creating the lakes. The Broads are a perfect destination for an outdoor holiday - many come to experience the tranquility of cruising a boat on the river and stopping off at a waterside pub for a spot of lunch.
