Believed to have been written around the year 800 AD, the Book of Kells is a highly decorated manuscript that contains the four Gospels of the New Testament. Whilst the book itself is an important historic piece of Christian belief, it forms part of a greater exhibition. Displayed within the 18th century library at Trinity College, visitors will walk through the old library and have the opportunity to attend talks about the subject matter. With two volumes of the book on display, over half a million visitors pass through the college each year to view the Latin text.
Nearest airport is Dublin itself, which is only thirty minutes away from Trinity College. The exhibition opens from 8.30am to 5pm May to September (9.30am Sundays) and from 9.30am the rest of the year, when it is also closed Sunday mornings. Tickets on the door are €11 for adults, €9 for concessions, with family tickets available for €22.
If you’re planning in advance book tickets online, they are slightly more expensive but you will avoid the lengthy queues.
