Sainte Chapelle

About Sainte-Chapelle

Located in the île-de-la-Cîte in the very centre of Paris, the 13th century Sainte-Chapelle is a marvel of Rayonnant gothic architecture. Built within the medieval royal palace, the chapel was constructed by Louis IX to house his Passion relics - a collection which includes the Crown of Thorns. The structure boasts a stunning interior, containing no less than 15 stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes. Although two-thirds of the towering stained glass pieces are original, unfortunately much of the chapel was destroyed during the French Revolution. A huge restoration project starting in the 1970s was finally completed in 2014 and you can now attend classical concerts in this atmospheric location.
