Originally opened as the Waldorf Theatre in 1905 the venue has undergone several name changes over the years. In 2005 the West End theatre became the Novello Theatre in honour of Ivor Novello, the famous Welsh composer and actor.
It has been a regular haunt for the Royal Shakespeare Company, who have produced runs of classic plays such as Twelfth Night, A Midsummers Night’s Dream and Hamlet. In 2012 the musical Mamma Mia! based around the works of Swedish pop-act Abba held residency, running until 2018.
